According to the BBC, the final episode of the British sitcom saga has now been watched by 19.3 million people, making it the most watched scripted show since records began some 23 years ago. It broke the viewing record for the 2019 Christmas special – which reached 18.5 million viewers in 28 days – in less than half the time, having premiered just nine days earlier.

The Christmas Day finale was watched by 12.3 million viewers live, surpassing the previous Christmas special five years ago, and a further 7 million have since tuned in for the 90-minute finale, which tied up the series' very exciting loose end.
