A man has died after falling 230 feet (70 metres) from a mountain range in front of shocked climbers.
The alarm was raised after a Sharp Edge fell at Blencathra, in the Lake District, on Thursday afternoon.
Keswick Mountain Rescue Team volunteers recovered the man's body, which was transferred to an air ambulance and flown to the team's base.
The team thanked others who went to help, and offered their condolences to the man's family.
She said in a social media post: “Our first appeal of the year had a tragic end after a man died in a 70-metre fall from Sharp Edge.
“A member of the Keswick team already at Blencathra made his way to the scene above Scales Tarn, along with the crew of Helimead 58, who landed nearby.
“The Keswick team recovered the body to H58 and then airlifted the man to the Keswick MR base.”
