After winning a Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe for Netflix last night emilia Perez, Zoe Saldana revealed backstage that she received a congratulatory text from director James Cameron.

“I was sitting in the audience and I got a message from James Cameron who is somewhere in New Zealand at the moment, editing Avatar: Fire and Ashes. And he believes in me after all these years. This, for me, fuels my desire to continue growing as an artist.

The actress explained that it was filmmakers like Cameron who helped her continue her career.

“I've been in this industry for 25 years. For a moment, I went from being a dancer to an actress. I was in my late teens and early 20s, and I didn't know what was in front of me and what I experienced is that I was always employed. I always had good people and make… Great, talented films who believe in me, bet on me, and trust me constantly.

She continued: “I'm 46 years old. There was a moment a couple of years ago when I kind of thought about Plan B. Do I go into a house and start planting a garden and making baked goods, and become the sexiest soccer mom in my mind. But the truth is, I'm an artist in every sense of the word, and I need To create every day. If not, I don’t know what I would do.”

Saldana added: “This is how my loved ones can get the best from me when I am allowed to create. I am indebted to filmmakers like Jacques Audiard because after conversations, tests and promises, I can do something.”

Emilia Perez The film has been building buzz since its premiere at Cannes last May, where the film won the Jury Prize as well as Best Actress for Saldana, Selena Gomez, Adriana Paz and lead star Carla Sofía Gascón. Last night, the Netflix acquisition also picked up awards for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, Best Non-English Language Film and Best Original Song for “El Mal,” for a total of four awards.

The gracious Saldana gave a shout-out to her fellow Globe nominees in the Best Supporting Actress category during her acceptance speech.
