Cameron Norrie has apologized after he threw his racket and accidentally hit a spectator during his straight-sets loss to Facundo Diaz Acosta in the Auckland Classic.

Nouri, ranked second in Britain, received a warning but avoided disqualification due to the incident that occurred when he was trailing 6-2 and 5-3.

After the former world number eight scored a goal to give Argentine Diaz Acosta a match point, a frustrated Nouri threw his racket behind him into the crowd.

The chair referee checked that the woman was not injured before issuing a warning to Nouri for unsportsmanlike behaviour.

“I didn't mean to do that, and I had no right to do something like that at all,” said Nouri, who grew up in Auckland.

“I apologized very quickly and I want to apologize in general. I'm not happy with the way I acted.”

Diaz Acosta went on to win 6-2, 6-3 after just three points.

“[The spectator] I was laughing and just said “so sorry, I didn’t mean to do that”. She said: Yes, I'm completely fine. “It wasn't a big deal,” Nouri said.

“But as we've seen with some other players, you can easily default if you catch them in the wrong place or they're not looking or something.”

Novak Djokovic has been disqualified from the fourth round of the 2020 US Open after accidentally hitting a ball into a line judge.

Canadian Denis Shapovalov was disqualified for hitting a line judge during a 2017 Davis Cup match against Great Britain, while in 2012 David Nalbandian was disqualified from the Queen's Championship after injuring a line judge by kicking a billboard in the leg.
