The nearly week-long public farewell to former President Jimmy Carter began in Plains, Georgia, where he died on December 29 at the age of 100, after spending his childhood at his home on the way to Atlanta.
The casket of the 39th President is being transported today to the US Capitol in Washington, D.C., for the next stage of his state funeral.
