A woman who bought a $5,500 cashmere cloak for $7.99 at a thrift store says she saves thousands a year on designer clothes.

Anna Gant, 26, worked as a model in her teenage years and has starred in campaigns for Savage X Fenty, American Eagle, and Free People.

Her background in the fashion world instilled in her a love of clothes, and she quickly developed a passion for seeking out designer items at discounted prices at thrift stores rather than boutiques.

Some of her bargains include a pair of $2,200 Prada shoes she found for $170 and an Escada fox fur coat she bought for $699 that retails for $4,300.

Anna estimates she saves a whopping $15,000 a year on designer clothes she finds at thrift stores.

“Every year, I will allow myself to spend $5,000 on myself — 95 percent of which will be used,” the Shreveport, Louisiana-based creator said in an exclusive chat.

“I won't go to Gucci or Dior, I'll save about $15,000 a year.”

“I'll go to Real Rail, Depop, eBay, and use whatever I can online, as well as personal savings,” she added.

Money mentality

Anna said she grew up with the mentality that “you're never good at wearing someone's quality piece” and you can find a lot of designer clothes at discounted prices or used.

“If you can find the luxury you want in your wardrobe, why not buy it at a discount or used?” I asked.

“My parents told me that you're never good at wearing someone's high-end piece.”

“I've always been like this and my parents are like this,” Anna confirmed.

I saved a $2.50 one-size-fits-all at Goodwill that was on my “bucket list” – it sells for $350 on Poshmark

“I remember meeting girls who were modeling and didn't understand the world of thrifting.”

Cape Cash

A $5,500 Loro Piana cashmere robe was Anna's latest find.

In December 2024, she was out with her mother and visited Treasures in Longview, Texas, about two hours southeast of Dallas.

Anna went to the store intent on finding a cloak or coat to wear, and was searching through the bars when she found a cashmere cloak.

Valuable savings discoveries revealed

Here are some of our best thrift store finds:

“I didn't go there specifically to look for brand names or tags,” she told Barry.

“I am very knowledgeable about fabrics and have handled many fabrics, and I can tell what a natural fiber piece is.”

“When I touched the robe, I knew it was special,” she recalled.

Anna looked at the tag and saw that it was a Loro Piana cashmere robe that normally retails for about $5,500 on sale for $7.99.

She said she was “ecstatic” and couldn't wait to try it.

“It was at the end of the day after we had been saving all day,” Anna explained.

“I texted my mom saying she would never guess what I found, and I was so excited to finally find the cloak because it had been on my mind all day.”

“Look out, I didn't think I'd find a cashmere cape from Loro Piana,” she noted.

“I was thrilled, I wore it at Christmas to show my family, and got a round of applause for my discovery.”

This wouldn't be the first time a luxury item worth thousands of dollars has been made available at a cheap price in recent months.

For example, another woman spotted a Goyard bag that normally sells for more than $3,000 at Goodwill for $14.99.

A $75 Louis Vuitton bag was also found at a thrift store that could sell for upwards of $1,890.
