Director Paul Feig recently responded to a claim that the sequel had been delayed amid an alleged feud between stars Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, explaining that the film is “coming soon” and that it is “amazing.”
“This is total BS. Sorry,” he wrote on X, citing the report. “The movie is finished and will be released soon. “Don’t believe anything you read on social media these days.”
After retracting the original poster, he wondered why Amazon Studios didn't set a release date after filming wrapped last spring.
“Dude, this is called post-production, which generally takes at least more than half a year when you take into account the editing, recording, special effects, sound mixing, close-up captioning, and all the technical QC that needs to be done,” Feige wrote. “Our publishing schedule has always been to have everything finished by mid-January. Movies don't get released as soon as they're finished because the studio spends the previous year determining the best release date. We've always planned something for the spring/summer of that year. After Amazon Studios and Lionsgate previously announced the sequel in 2022, bringing back Feig, Kendrick, and Lively, filming began this spring, with original cast members Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Saladin, Joshua Satin, Ian Ho, and Kelly McCormack returning.
