Mark Jones, Ospreys coach, says that beard will be missed, and hopes that the next generation of locks can fill the void.
Jones said: “The Perdy's influence was present in his time in Osprez,” Jones said.
“It will leave a large hole as a player and a group expert and a captain.
“Ospreys historically has placed great importance in the presence of five strong fronts and was a major contributor to it for a long time. He is a professional in the elite but most of all, a great person.”
Jones added that although Bird's presence was missed, Ospreys has “great hopes” for a number of younger locks in the area.
He added: “His departure will provide an opportunity for these children, along with any new additions to us, to escalate as leaders.”
The captain of Wales Dewey Lake and Jack Morgan has signed new deals to stay in Osprez next season, while Ross Morarti is scheduled to join Briv.
