McLaren Oscar Pacryri occupied a position in the Grand Prix in Bahrain with his teammate Lando Norris in sixth place.
George Russell qualified from Mercedes in second place, but his rank was reduced to one place behind Charles Licerk from Ferrari due to a work error.
Max Verstapen of Red Bull, only one point behind Norris at the top of the tournament, was one place behind the British in seventh place.
Lewis Hamilton was ninth in Ferrari.
Andrea Kimi Antonelle qualified in Mercedes, but was dropped behind the impressive Alps of Pierre Gasly for the same Russell crime.
McLaren was always sure of the pole, but what was expected to be a special battle between PiaSSTRI and Norris.
The PiaSSTRI feature was on Russell 0.168 seconds on the head of the field, and the Leclerc 0.334secs off the Australian.
“I felt confident for the weekend,” said Piasstri. “Those who qualified, others were a little closer to what we wanted, but they got time in the lap when it was important. You cannot thank the team enough for the car they gave me.”
Norris, who was 0.426 seconds behind his teammate, could not explain his lack of speed.
He said, “I was slow.” “I was slow on the entire weekend, to be honest. Nothing is very surprising. I just went out.
“The car is amazing. I have nothing to complain about, the team is doing a great job, but I just give up.”
In Ferrari, there was a similar division between their drivers. LeClerc spoke about following the “extremist” preparation direction in the past two races that made the car “very difficult to drive but it seems that I am hurry this way, so we will continue in this direction.”
But Hamilton, the slow 0.597secs is slower than his teammate, seemed unable to explain what happened on his part, and apologized to his team on the radio as he returned to drilling for what he said, “My weak performance.”
“There are no reasons,” he said. “I just don't do the mission. This happens every Saturday.
“It is clear that our car is much better than that I offer with it, Charles did a great job with it today, and a great apology to the team for not doing this task.”
Russell looked at the goal to be the best in the rest throughout the weekend, but the second place was a happy surprise for the British.
“If anyone had said that we were 0.5 seconds from McCares, we had taken it,” he said. “Q3 was really strong. I really didn't feel it through the qualifiers, I had no confidence in myself. I don't know why that was. Q1 and Q2 were a real challenge.
“But the Q3 returned to my bodies and surprised to be only 0.15 seconds off the pole and before one of the McLares. And Charles there too.
“As the session is revealed, we are faster and faster. The P2 lining is exciting but we are unlikely to fight with Oscar.”
Mercedes drivers were punished because the team released them very early until the end of the hole lane after a red stop in the second session to crash the Has Esteban Ocon.
