In an interview with The Observer, Wiggins said about his addiction after his career: “There were times I think my son would find dead in the morning.
“I was a addict working. People will not realize – I was very high for many years.”
Wiggins – North London North London, from a broken house, grew up in poverty – reached the top of sport that requires clinical preparation and a quiet head under pressure.
In interviews during his career, Wigins referred calmness and magic. It seems that he had everything under control.
Perhaps it was, with the large budget Sky team between 2010 and 2015, run by Dave Brailsford and Rod EllengWorth- which will win the 2012 tour, the World Time Trial 2014 and much more.
The talent of Wiggins and its presence inspired the team to a period of domination of cycling on the road, unprecedented.
But after his career, his problems demonstrated.
In 2020, his marriage ended with Cath. They have two children: Ben – Now a passenger himself with Hamens Berman Jayco – and Isabella.
Then came the collapse of the Wiggins team, which was founded in 2015. The team lacked enough blue chips, although there were many talented British cycles. There was more than Wiggins's private money that invested in the team more than he realized.
This, cocaine addiction, would spell the troubles of anyone's wallet – even a sports symbol. Wigins announced bankruptcy.
“I had a lot of self -hatred,” Wigins said after his life. “But I was inflating it. It was a form of self -insurance and self -sabotage. It wasn't the person I wanted to be. I realized that I was hurting many people around me.
“There is no middle floor for me. I can't get a cup of wine – if I have a cup of wine, I buy drugs. The addiction feature was relieving the pain I lived with.”
Jonathan Fuerters, former Wiggins team leader, who is now heading EFUSYPOST World TOUR – causes Wiggins the problems he faces. But this is not by lacking self -awareness.
“I mean, in the end, professional bicycle passengers will always search for dopamine during the race,” said Futters. “[It] It makes it an easy goal for addiction.
“I mean … I say that Wiggo is more talented, from the point of view of intelligence, more than most people. It is very sensitive to social interactions as well. So, you have an excessive intelligent man, with excessive knowledge of social interactions, and it has led a very disciplined lifestyle, but thrives with dopamine as a professional contestant … it is an ideal storm.
“He is very smart. There is no official education at all. But he reads people like a book.”
