A survey found that among the 62 % of the drivers who said they did not completely understand the changes, nearly two -thirds (64 %) is not sure whether their tax has already increased
According to the new research from Carwow Marketplace via the Internet, the changes made on the VED duty are scheduled to enter into force as of April 1, 2025, it left millions of drivers in the United Kingdom feel uncertain and unconfirmed.
Despite the extensive reforms – that will affect all UK drivers, including those who own gasoline, diesel, hybrid, and electric cars – nearly six out of ten (62 %) admitted that they did not completely understand the changes, while nearly two -thirds (64 %) are not sure if their car tax has already increased.
An annual average VED system provided a flat rate of 195 pounds sterling for most vehicles and abolished the long electric cars exemption (EVS). Many newly registered EVS are also subject to expensive car supplements, which apply to more than 40,000 pounds – a threshold that affects about 70 % of the new EVS.

However, more than half (53 %) of UK car drivers admit that they still do not know how much the costs of changes are cash, highlighting the lack of clarity about one of the most basic costs of car ownership, according to Caroo.
CarwOW's study also discovered that more than half (52 %) of UK motorists believe that the government should do more to support consumers moving towards EVS – such as providing incentives and tax frustration wherever possible, according to Lancs Live reports.
Nevertheless, the majority of respondents (58 %) still believe that the changes made on VED, which now involve taxes on EV owners, will not prevent them from future electrical transmission.
The editor -in -chief in Carwow, IAIN RIID, has set the upcoming adjustments to the car tax rates that are scheduled to enter next year, with reference to: “The road tax may not be the most exciting part of owning a car, but it is one of the most important need to communicate by the incentive.”
He continued to explain the effects of the new carbure assignment (VED): “From April 1, 2025, the VED system has changed significantly. Electric cars are no longer exempt – as a new EVS is paid at the rate of the first year of only 10 pounds, followed by a stable standard of 195 pounds.
Red also highlighted additional costs for Pricier EVS: “Moreover, the expensive car supplement now applies to EVS for the first time – so if the cost of your car is more than 40,000 pounds, then you pay 425 pounds per year for five years, which means that there are a 620 pounds of annual road tax bills. Most of the aura also lost VED discount.
Finally, the complexity added by these changes summarized: “While the rate of the flat of 195 pounds is simple on paper, removing exemptions, new cost layers, and inflation increases made things more difficult to track them. People are not sure of what they owe – especially when taxes are imposed on the car for the first time under the new rules.
“In a positive note, the audience's support for EVS is detained. In Carwow, in April, we saw EV inquiries by 75 % on an annual basis. This indicates that the public's interest in green options is still there, but more should be done to help drivers feel confident, report and prepare to switch.”
Amid the increasing environmental concerns, it is encouraging to see the enthusiasm of electric vehicles (EV) is still not militant, as Carro witnessed an amazing batch of 75 % in EV inquiries compared to last year. But despite this green mutation, there is a strong invitation to work to ensure that drivers are equipped with confidence and knowledge necessary for a smooth transfer to cleaner travel.
To enhance a smoother transformation of the Ev's auto drivers, Carwow has developed the “Motoring Manifesto”, which is an ambitious scheme of 10 points designed to accelerate EVS absorption and enhance the confidence of car drivers on the road.
