Eastbourne: Emma Raducanu says emotional reaction to win was because she received ‘some really bad news’

Emma Radocano said her emotional reaction to her victory in the first round of Estborn was because she had received “some really bad news” before the match.

Raducanu number one British wrestlers control a second group of Topsy-Orvy against Ann Li before finishing 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-1.

The 22 -year -old, who was lagging behind the Americans with a group and rest, and stopping tears after securing victory.

Coach Mark Pitci and the Billy Jean King Cup team teammate from Radocano Fran Jones were both on the side of the match.

“I prefer not to enter,” Radokano told the BBC Sport.

“Mentally, in the first group, I was not really present. Fran Jones was there for me because she is a good friend for me, so you know what is going on behind the scenes.

“Her support for me was very meaningful.”

After she managed to keep her preparations at Wimbledon on the right track, Australian teena Radocano will meet Maya somewhere in the quarter -finals on Wednesday.

Speaking in her interview on the field, Radocano said: “I would like to thank the crowd for getting some of the really sticky moments.

“This really meant a lot for me and I am really proud of how I was fighting after I lost the first group.

“It was difficult, it was up and down. But from the middle of the second group, I think I found other equipment and another level.”
