Gary Linker frankly opened his son's cancer battle, and revealed that he initially “did not give much”, during an interview with ITV's The Assembly.
The EX-Footballler, 64, is one of the celebrities who appear in the new series of four parts of the association, which sees the stars that have been interrogated by a group of interviews who suffer from disabling autism, nervousness or learning, with no topics outside the table.
Gary was asked about what he felt when his older son George was diagnosed with cancer as a child, and my four father became emotional as he was reflected in a very difficult time.
“It was really difficult – it changes you,” confessed. “He was only two months old. He told us that he was suffering from leukemia, and he did not give much opportunity.”
“It was really terrible. We were in hospital for about seven months,” Gary continued. “But we were lucky, because there were other fathers who lost their children, so we felt that we were very lucky in the end. It was really scary.”
Gary is participating four children, George, Tobias, Harry and Angus, with his ex -wife, Michel, who separated from her in 2006 after 20 years of marriage.
Critics were reflected in the ways I dealt with and EX Michelle with the diagnosis of George's cancer, adding: “I felt I needed to talk about it. Michelle, things would go away. But in the end we got a good end.”
Elsewhere in the association, Gary talked about his comment from the BBC in 2023, admitting that the media frenzy that follows “his disturbance” at the time, but the support he received from colleagues was “beautiful”.
“It was a crazy week and bothered me,” he added. “I had all the press outside my house every minute of the day, for five/six days. I became a little ridiculous but it was also beautiful because the support I got from the people I was working with was beautiful.”
Gary was temporarily removed from today's match in 2023 after being accused of violating the BBC guidelines, due to a tweet he participated in criticizing the immigration policy of the UK government.
Critics colleagues, including Ian Wright, Alan Shearer, and Mika Richards, stood up with Gary and said they would not appear to be censored in the wake of his comment.
After several days, the conflict was resolved with the return of Gary on Motd. Tim Devi, BBC director, issued a public statement at the time, saying that BBC has a “commitment to neutrality” as well as “freedom of expression”.
