AMAZON Prime Video customers spent the winter bracing for an increase in the number of ads shown on the streaming service.

The tech giant warned late last year that it would increase its ad slots sometime in 2025.

Nearly 12 months ago, the streaming service introduced ads to all Prime Video subscribers, forcing customers to pay an extra £2.99/$2.99 to get rid of them.

Since the company did not see a significant drop in user numbers after rolling out the ad, Amazon bosses decided to offer more.

But subscribers say there are already enough ads on the platform.

“I'm done, I tried to watch something last week and it was already at an unbearable level,” one viewer wrote in a post on Reddit.

“Amazon is killing all of its services right now, which is baffling.”

In a separate post, another viewer added: “There's actually a lot more to it than Netflix etc. And when you rewind it resets the ads. Fix that before the amount of ffs increases.”

The reaction has been fairly unanimous: Viewers don't like the ads — and are reluctant to accept more.

Some viewers who were completely unimpressed by the first tranche of ads decided that the second load was enough to make them boycott the service.

While others believe that this move will only push more people into pirating content.

“It's actually really bad. I'm out. I literally unsubscribed,” a third viewer wrote.

“I think I need to sail the high seas again so corporate America can get their ass in.”

The date for the second series of hit Amazon Prime series The Rig has been confirmed

A fourth person added: “People loved the stream because they were tired of the commercials and the ridiculous graphics.

“Now people are abandoning streaming because they're tired of the commercials and the ridiculous fees.”

Prime Video followed in the footsteps of Netflix and then Disney+, which led the way by rolling out ads — and then unveiling a new ad-free paid tier.

Amazon told customers last January that the ads would allow the company to spend more money behind original content — for example, shows like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which reportedly cost more than $715 million to produce.

Viewers who already pay for an ad-free package will be exempt from this increase.
