After a disappointing performance at his home Grand Prix last year, Jake Dixon has turned things around by winning the 2024 British Grand Prix.
Last year, Jake Dixon’s home race ended in the worst possible way as he crashed out of the race after a collision with Darren Binder. However, this week Dixon was able to right his wrongs from last year as he claimed victory in his home Grand Prix.
The 2024 British Grand Prix was the opposite of the 2023 British Grand Prix for Dixon. This year, the 28-year-old qualified fifth and was part of a two-man group with Aaron Canet. After being left out until the last lap, Dixon passed Canet to take his third Grand Prix win.
“It was a dream come true,” Dixon said after the British Grand Prix. “No one would have thought I would do it before the weekend. I dreamed about it today, I thought I could do it, and it was amazing to win.”
Dixon’s 2024 season started poorly as he was unable to participate in the first two races of the season, and in the next three races he failed to score a single point. After five races without points, Dixon turned his season around in Catalunya where he finished third and took his second podium after three Grands Prix at Assen, where he finished second.
His win at Silverstone moved Dixon up to eighth in the championship standings, meaning he is the first British rider to win on his home turf since Danny Kent won Moto3 in 2015.
“I dedicate this win to all the fans in the UK,” said Dixon after winning his home British Grand Prix. “A British team has won again, and hopefully we can win many more races now. I feel good. After the disappointment of last year, to come here and win the British Grand Prix, I honestly can’t express how grateful I am.”
