Zac Efron’s “swimming incident” in Ibiza, Spain, reportedly began with a dive gone wrong during an early morning dip with friends.
TMZ reported Monday that the “High School Musical” star was briefly hospitalized over the weekend after diving too deep into a pool at his villa and hitting his chest on the bottom.
Sources close to the situation told the outlet that Efron “ingested a large amount of water into his lungs” from the impact and started displaying “signs of distress.”
According to TMZ, the “Iron Claw” actor was “momentarily dazed” from the ordeal and subsequently taken to get medical attention.
A chest X-ray was performed at the hospital to confirm the water had left his lungs and he was released within hours, per the outlet.
Reps for Efron did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment Monday.
On Sunday, the “17 Again” star appeared to be back to his normal routine as he shared a shirtless photo of himself working out on an exercise ball.
“Happy and healthy,” he wrote on his Instagram Story, adding, “thanks for the well wishes.”
Insiders told TMZ that Efron, 36, went out to dinner in Ibiza that night before flying back to the US on Monday.
The swimming scare comes nearly two years after the “Greatest Showman” actor revealed that he shattered his jaw when he slipped and fell while running in his house with socks on.
In his October 2022 cover story for Men’s Health, Efron said he smacked his face on the granite corner of a fountain, lost consciousness and woke up with his chin bone “hanging off his face.”
In response to fans’ reactions to his altered appearance and plastic surgery rumors, he told the magazine that his facial muscles got “really, really big” to compensate for the injury.
