It’s been a far from ideal start to life in a Manchester United for the Frenchman, who joined United this summer for £52million from Lille.

Yoro, 18, made his debut last month in a 2-0 win over Rangers, two days after signing for the club.

But just a week later he was forced off with a foot injury after half an hour in a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal.

After the defender left the stadium on crutches, it emerged that he would need surgery.

United have said that the surgery was successful but the defender will now remain sidelined for three months.

Yoro said in an Instagram post following the op: “This is not the start I wanted, but that’s football.

“The operation went well. Thank you for your many messages of support.

“Now, time for patience and rehabilitation work. See you soon, stronger.”

Yoro posted a photo of himself giving a thumbs up from a hospital bed alongside the statement.

He also shared an image featuring a quote from the Bible, which said: “Jesus replied, You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”

United begin their season on Sunday as they take on rivals Manchester City in the Community shield.

Manager Erik ten Hag enters that game with his team already in the midst of a defensive injury crisis as potentially joining Yoro on the sidelines are Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof.

Raphael Varane also left United this summer as a free agent and has since joined Serie A side Como – who are managed by Cesc Fabregas.
