After the Yamaha team had secured the top three positions earlier today with Ryan Vickers leading in the first session of free practice, Danny Kent took pole position in the second session of free practice at Thruxton.
Earlier today, Yamaha dominated the opening round of the British Superbike Championship, taking the top three places. In the second round of testing, Yamaha continued its dominance.
Danny Kent was second earlier in the day, but his time in the second session of free practice saw him top the timesheets at the end of the first day. Kent is still looking for his first BSB win, which looks possible this week.
Championship leader Tommy Bridewell looks set to extend his lead over the rest of the field this weekend. Bridewell could deliver a great performance on his home lap and put his Honda back on the top step of the podium.
Kyle Ryde took third in the first round of the day and continued his good form in the second round. Ryde finished the first day as the third fastest rider on the track.
Once again, Christian Iddon leads the Ducati standings. At the Oxford Products Racing Ducati Teams home round, Iddon will be looking to close in on Bridewell and Glenn Irwin in the championship standings.
It looks like FHO Racing and Peter Hickman have found something today as Hickman finished the day in 5th place.
The Honda team finished practice in sixth and seventh with Lee Jackson sixth in a MasterMac Honda and Andrew Irwin seventh in a Honda Racing UK car.
Max Cook finished the day as the best Kawasaki rider, a surprise after Jason O’Halloran’s performance in the previous round. Cook finished eighth, with O’Halloran tenth.
Billy McConnell rounded out the day in the top 10, driving his C&L Fairburn Properties/Look Forward Racing Honda to ninth place.
