After two podium visits, Danilo Petrucci was disappointed not to be able to claim a third podium in race two.
Danilo Petrucci had his best weekend of the season, finishing on the podium twice in the three World Superbike races. The Italian missed the Dutch round earlier this season after suffering serious injuries in a training accident.
The 33-year-old Petrucci has made three podium finishes since returning from injury. His performances have seen him fight for fifth place in the MotoGP World Championship. After taking podiums in the first race and the Super Pole, he was disappointed to finish fifth in the second race.
“I had my best result in a Super Pole race,” said Petrucci after the second race. “Then in the second race I had a good start, I was first at the first corner. After the first lap I was struggling with the bike because of the strong wind, and I always struggle with strong wind because of my big body and my set-up. I was very good at the start with the others, but in the last sector and on the straight I was really slow.”
After the race, Petrucci expressed his gratitude to his team for giving him a great bike. However, he could not hide his disappointment after failing to make the podium three times.
“I should be happy with fifth place, but I’m not! After two podiums and starting from the front row, I was looking forward to another one. I wanted more but I want to thank my team because they are doing an incredible job. The bike is very good, we see Magny-Cours as a track I like, but we will see. We are very close to fifth in the championship, we have taken some good points this week and I am looking forward to the next round,” said Petrucci with a smile.
