The long-gestating Nautilus live action series has swum to Prime Video in the UK and Ireland.

Based on Jules Verne’s beloved Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, the series was initially in with Disney+ UK before it was culled as part of its notorious streaming content removal plan last year. It wound up with AMC in the States and is now with Amazon in the UK and Ireland.

Nautilus tells the origin story of Captain Nemo: an Indian Prince robbed of his birthright and family, joining him as he steals a formidable prototype submarine and escapes into the Indian Ocean with a ragtag crew, determined to enact revenge against the ruthless East India Mercantile Company. It stars Shazad Latif, Georgia Flood, Thierry Fremont and Céline Menville, with guest appearances from Richard E Grant, Anna Torv and Noah Taylor.

Deadline revealed Disney was ditching Nautilus around a year ago and soon after AMC announced it was picking it up. Around the same time, Disney also didn’t go forward with The Spiderwick Chronicles, which ended up with Roku.

Prime Video secured rights for Nautilus in the UK and Ireland through an exclusive deal with Disney Entertainment. Nautilus is distributed by Disney Entertainment and acknowledges the support from the Australian Government’s Location Incentive and from the Queensland Government via Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Strategy.
