EXCLUSIVE: After tapping Emily Bunt to star this past May, Steven Spielberg looks to have found his next A-lister for next event film as Deadline is hearing Colin Firth is in early talks to join the film. The Amblin and Universal is based on a story by Spielberg and has the filmmaker’s longtime collaborator David Koepp penning the script.

Universal and Amblin had no comment.

Kristie Macosko Krieger is producing. Plot details have been kept under lock and key.

Universal has dated the film for May 15, 2026, landing it in the summer tentpole zone Spielberg practically created with such films as Jaws and Raiders of the Lost Ark. It would mark his fist major summer release in quiet some time.

For the Oscar-winning actor, this will mark the first time Firth and Spielberg have worked together. Firth is coming off his Emmy-nominated role in the HBO limited series The Staircase. He recently wrapped production on the Peacock series Lockerbie and recently landed a role in the upcoming Amazon Prime series Young Sherlock.

He is repped by CAA.
