And the Chiefs will aim to become the first team to ever win three Super Bowls in a row when the 2024 NFL season kicks off next month.

Mahomes has never hidden his admiration for tight end Kelce, and it’s shining through again.

“It’s remarkable, honestly, you see him out there every day in practice and he is working, getting the reps,” Mahomes said.

“He actually gets mad when they take him out.”

“He has all the right in the world (to) be on the sidelines, he knows all the stuff. But he loves it man, he loves working.

“And it makes my job easier to push the other guys because I can say, look at the Hall of Famer out here practicing harder than anybody.

“That is what makes him so special – he enjoys the process of being great.

“Not just the top, winning the Super Bowl. The process of practicing, the process of little details.

“You heard stories of Jerry Rice and guys like that, when you’re great like that you enjoy the process and it helps me lead other guys.”

Kelce signed a new two-year deal with the Chiefs, worth $34m, in the offseason.

“I remember coming here 12 years ago. It’s an honour and a pleasure,” the 34-year-old said in a video to announce the deal.

“I can’t wait to get after it. Just got out on the field with the boys – we’re back at it again.”

Kelce has rarely been out of the headlines since the Chiefs claimed their last Super Bowl triumph, a 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas in February.

His relationship with singing icon Taylor Swift has meant he’s been just as likely to be featured in entertainment stories as sports over the last six months.

Kelce spent time with Swift in Europe this summer as she continues her worldwide tour.
