Emma, a mum-of-two, will only pocket £30,000 out of a £540,000 lottery jackpot as she would have to share the winnings with her neighbours as part of game rules

The residents on a Lancashire road have different ideas about how to spend their money

A mum who believed she won a life-changing £540,000 jackpot has found her mega winnings were slashed down to £30,000 thanks to a small print rule.

Mum-of-two Emma, from Darwen, Lancashire, was thrilled when she learned her street won the Postcode Lottery. She was one of the lucky 18 neighbours who won the £540,000 jackpot. But Emma later learned she’d only be able to pocket £30,000 of winnings. The Street Prize draw means every resident on the road has to split the total amount.

Trying to remain upbeat, Emma said: “It’s amazing to win with our neighbours. But it’s not every day someone gives you £30,000.” Her lottery win comes after she and husband Chris returned from their honeymoon in Greece, having got marriage last month. They are now planning to use their share of the winnings to give their end-terrace home a revamp.

Everyone on the street needed to share the mega winnings

Chris, a self-employed dryliner, told The Sun that the family would be putting the money towards doing up the garden and driveway while also saving some for a rainy day. Despite not pocketing the full amount, they are still thrilled that they could share the win with others.

The entire street has since joined in on the celebrations, with winners turning the road into a party zone. Emma told the outlet: “It’s a really good neighbourhood, and everyone looks out for each other, so it is incredible to share this win.” Other winners on the street also shared their ideas about when they will splash their winnings on. Mark, a surface repair technician who loves gaming tattoos said he planned to add Sonic the Hedgehog to his collection to put a smile on his two-year-old son’s face.

Mark said he would use part of the winnings to get a tattoo of Sonic the Hedgehog

He told The Sun: “This is unbelievable. It’s all I’ve been thinking about. I like gaming tattoos. I might get Sonic this time. My little boy loves that. Off the top of my head, I might also get the lottery logo in there. I’ll tell the tattooist what I want, and he’ll do a good job.”

Taking part in the People’s Postcode Lottery involves subscribing to it for £12 per month before being automatically entered into draws using your postcode. If your postcode is drawn, you win.
