No Teamsters Casting Deal Yet As Union Looks To Schedule Extra Dates With AMPTP

The Teamsters Locals 399 and 817 have finished a week of scheduled negotiations with the studios on a new casting agreement — but there’s no deal yet.

The union announced in a statement on Friday evening that “it’s clear that the AMPTP will need more time to respect and compensate Los Angeles and New York Casting Professionals fairly.”

Extra dates will be set sometime before the current deal expires on September 30.

As Deadline reported earlier this week, the core priority during this negotiation cycle is wage increases and protections, including establishing minimum rates for casting directors.

This is also the first round of bargaining since casting assistants voted to join the union, and codifying annual wage increases for that group is among the Teamsters’ priorities as well.

Deadline has reached out to the AMPTP for comment on the week of negotiations. This post will be updated if/when they reply.

This has been the story of the last several months, as all the below-the-line unions have needed to extend talks in order to secure a deal. However, all so far have gotten it done before the respective contract expiration dates.

The Animation Guild, IATSE Local 839, also just scheduled more dates for its own bargaining in September, after failing to reach an agreement in one week.
