JOEY Chestnut put on an impressive performance to win the Unfinished Beef hot dog eating contest against Takeru Kobayashi, but it appeared that Kobayashi was the star of the show.
After being defeated by Chestnut, Kobayashi’s family could be seen in tears in the crowd cheering on their speed-eating champ.
Chestnut took home the victory in the contest, eating 83 hot dogs to Kobayashi’s 67.
The massive total of 83 hot dogs was a new world record from Chestnut, breaking the record he previously held.
Despite losing the contest, Kobayashi got a thunderous ovation and had a huge contingent cheering him on.
Kobayashi’s family was in that crowd and they were seen sobbing while cheering him on after chowing down on 67 hot dogs in 10 minutes.

“I feel like I did everything I could,” Kobayashi said through a translator after the event.
Fans were left baffled by how many fans were crying for Kobayashi in the crowd, and shared their reactions on social media.
“With this Chestnut/Kobayashi thing, never before have I seen so many tears from a hotdog eating contest,” one fan said.
“Women are crying in the audience for Kobayashi. He won off that alone. He’s like the Yu Darvish of hot dogs,” another fan said.
“Props to Kobayashi. He went down swinging,” a third fan said.
“Kobayashi man what a legend. i feel bad for the kids who weren’t around to witness his greatness in real time,” a fourth fan said.
