It’s no secret that Ana Navarro isn’t a fan of The Bachelor franchise — and she let it be known during The View‘s interview with The Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos, who handled the criticism like a pro.
On this morning’s episode of the long-running daytime talk show, Navarro grilled Vassos about whether the reality dating series is “scripted.”
“All of them are big fans,” Navarro said, pointing to her fellow co-hosts. “I’m the outcast at this table. I’ve never watched an episode. It just doesn’t attract me. But I’m willing to be converted.”
Navarro continued, “What do you say to skeptics like me who think this is all scripted and predetermined and just too corny for school?”
Vassos, who appeared in the inaugural season of The Golden Bachelor and is currently starring as the franchise’s first-ever Golden Bachelorette, agreed that the ABC series “is not for everyone.” However, she promised that none of what fans see on the show is scripted.
“I totally get why you would think that. It’s not scripted at all, honestly,” she said. “Other than them finding people that they think would be a good match for you, which is a great thing because going out there and dating in the wild is not easy and I hear that from young and old.”
Vassos assured Navarro that producers “never tell you what to say” and “never tell you who to pick” — and while they did set up the dates, she was able to give her input on where they would take place.
“It honestly is not scripted, at least Bachelor is not,” she said. “At least my Bachelor season wasn’t. And Golden Bachelorette wasn’t either.”
Navarro, for her part, has been outwardly critical of The Golden Bachelor/Bachelorette ever since it was announced last year. In a July 2023 episode of The View, she said, “I actually don’t like these shows. I hate the idea of people competing when it comes to love.” And in an April 2024 episode, Navarro doubled down that she “can’t stand” the franchise because she thinks it’s “manufactured and a complete crock.”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
