AFTER growing up in the famous McMahon family, Shane McMahon has wrestling running through his veins.
In September 2024, the AEW star’s scandal-hit dad Vince was the subject of Netflix documentary, Mr McMahon.
Born on January 15, 1970, Shane McMahon is an AEW (All Elite Wrestling) professional wrestler and businessman, the son of Vince and Linda McMahon and brother of wrestling star and former co-CEO of WWE, Stephanie McMahon.
This means he is a fourth-generation wrestling promoter as a member of the WWE McMahon family.
He began working in AEW (formerly the WWF) at 15, starting in their warehouse, where he filled merchandise orders.
Before becoming a wrestler, Shane was also a referee, producer, and announcer.
Become a wrestler
The star got his big break in the ring in 1990.
He competed until 2009 when he took a seven-year break from the sport.
Shane then returned to the ring in 2016.
As a wrestler, Shane has won the European Championship once, the Hardcore Championship, the SmackDown Tag Team Championship, and the AEW World Cup.
Horror injuries
Over the years Shane has sustained several stomach-churning injuries in the wrestling ring.
One of his most horrific being when he “blew out his belly button” and suffered an umbilical hernia at WrestleMania.
It happened after he leaped from the Hell in a Cell roof in a clash with The Undertaker in 2016.
He revealed how his opponent was not keen on him jumping from the Cell.
Speaking to ESPN about it, Shane said: “He was not a proponent of me jumping off the cage.
“Not taking anything away from Mick Foley, but this was the new Hell in a Cell. This was bigger, substantially higher.
I blew my belly button out — an umbilical hernia — because I hit so hard [on impact]. I didn’t expect that force to be that hard. But oh my god, it was.

“Mark would say there were other things we could do, different iterations. But I told him no. This is what the story needs. It was David vs. Goliath, and you’re expecting David is just going to be killed.”
“In that match, I had exhausted everything in my toolbox to try and win. This is what WrestleMania needs.”
He continued: “I blew my belly button out — an umbilical hernia — because I hit so hard [on impact].
“I didn’t expect that force to be that hard. But oh my god, it was.
“We knew we had it all the way through the match, just based on the reaction. He was happy with it when it was over.”
Then in 2023, Shane suffered a horror injury during another WrestleMania match.
The WWE star entered the ring as The Miz’s unexpected opponent at the SoFi Stadium in Hollywood.
But after jumping over his opponent, he landed awkwardly and collapsed onto the canvas.
Shane appeared to have injured his knee but WWE chief Triple H confirmed at the time he had suffered a torn quad.
He told fans: “Unfortunately, Shane tore his quad early in the match, and not that it was going to be a long match, probably, but going down with a torn quad.”
Stepping into business
While still working as a wrestler, Shan became AEW’s Executive Vice President of Global Media, something he has since stepped down from.
Since 201, he has sat on the Board of Directors for International Sports Management.
Shane is also a part-owner of the Indian Larry Motorcycle Shop in Brooklyn, New York.
Family life
Shane is happily married to wife Marissa Mazzola.
The pair were High School sweethearts and wed on September 14, 1996.
The couple have three sons – Declan, James, and Kenyon – who can often be seen supporting their dad at his wrestling matches.
