LOS Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson thinks Bronny James shouldn’t play in the NBA this year.
After being selected with a second-round pick, Johnson’s thinks LeBron James’ son needs more time to develop.
During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Johnson gave his opinion about how Bronny’s development should be handled by the Lakers.
Many fans want to see LeBron and his son take the court together, but Johnson thinks they should wait for him to develop.
“If I’m Bronny, I would tell my dad, ‘Just let me play in the G League all season so that I can develop,'” Johnson said.
“He needs playing time. He doesn’t need to be sitting on the Laker bench and not playing.”
That isn’t Johnson saying that Bronny won’t be a successful basketball player, he just thinks that he will be even better if he spends some time developing.
“That’s not a knock against him, he’s just not ready,” Johnson said.
“He needs to develop more and then he will be ready because he has some great talent and skills.
“But he needs to develop those skills at a much better clip if he wants to play 15-20 minutes a night in the NBA or more.”
Johnson has no official role with the Lakers, but he has remained close to the team throughout his retirement.
He wouldn’t tell Jimmy Kimmel if he knows how the 12-man roster would shape up, but he did say he thinks LeBron will know what’s best for Bronny.
New head coach JJ Reddick has already said that Bronny will spend a lot of his time in the G-League, but he will get a chance to play with his father.
Redick said he expects the young prospect to join the team “sooner rather than later.”
NBA fans weren’t exactly convinced with a scenario where Bronny plays on the Lakers and shared their thoughts on social media.
“We are A Joke. Lakers will finish 12th in the West. We big trash,” one fan said.
What the new TV deal means for the NBA?
By The U.S. Sun’s Assistant Sports Editor Damian Burchardt.
THE new TV rights deal is promising to be a humongous win for NBA players.
The league is set to more than double the revenue coming from its media partners, pocketing about $6.9 billion per year, which will inevitably lead to a huge salary cap spike in 2025-26.
That is going to send the value of player contracts skyrocketing.
Projected figures suggest we might see the first $100 million-per-year deal being signed soon.
Currently, Boston Celtics All-Star Jayson Tatum is projected to earn the highest single-season salary in NBA history, collecting $71.5 million in 2029-30.
If TNT Sports successfully matches one of the offers to maintain its decades-long partnership with the league, hoops fans will be on the winning side too.
The network’s flagship, Inside the NBA, is a one-of-a-kind sports entertainment show, as evidenced by ESPN’s ongoing failure to come up with its own version of the program in recent years.
The NBA wouldn’t be the same without Kenny and Ernie trying to make sense of Shaq and Chuck’s never-ending bickering every Tuesday night.
“Can someone please explain to me a scenario where Lebron and Bronny play on the court together in a regular season game?” another fan said.
“I think it would be better if Bronny play for another team tbh Let him grow,” a third fan said.
“They probably trade Bronny in a few years,” a fourth fan said.
“The lakers are just a media grab franchise now. Screw winning, they just want the camera time,” a fifth fan said.
