At 98 years old, Dick Van Dyke has at least one positive thought: knowing his time is limited.
The 6x Emmy winner had a candid reaction when asked how he felt about Donald Trump returning to office for another four-year term following his presidential election victory against Kamala Harris this month.
“Fortunately, I will not be around for the four-year experience,” he said. Daily Mail.
When asked if he thought the future looked bright for the country, Van Dijk said: “I hope you're right.”
Van Dyke had previously supported Harris last week in a video clip on YouTube, stressing that “hate is not the norm,” giving a speech to Rod Serling in which he said that “hatred is not the norm.” Mary Poppins The actor previously appeared at a 1964 civil rights event with Martin Luther King Jr.
He added: “To those who tell us that inequality between man and animals is a necessary evil, we must simply respond by first saying that it is an evil, but it is not a necessary evil,” before pointing out: “1964. Van Dyke supported Bernie Sanders in the 2020 presidential primary and spoke at one of his campaign events. Earlier this year, he told The Hollywood Reporter that he was supporting Joe Biden's re-election, before the president dropped out of the race.
Van Dyke is among the few Hollywood figures who posted videos in support of Harris, ahead of the election. Richard Gere endorsed Harris in a video released by her campaign in Pennsylvania, and former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger endorsed her in a statement.
