Kehlani responded to the “saddest thing ever” after her ex accused her of saying their daughter was her “wife in a previous life.”
The 29-year-old took to Instagram to set the record straight and share her side of the story.
Kehlani and her ex-husband Javaaughn Young-White, who started dating in 2018, welcomed their daughter Adeya a year later.
The couple separated shortly after the little one was born and have been co-parenting ever since.
But in August this year, Javan applied for full custody of five-year-old Adia, after claiming she was part of a “religious cult”.
Other court documents showed text messages between the parents, in which she described her daughter as a “spouse from a previous life” — and took to Instagram to share that it shouldn't be taken seriously.
“As someone who always receives a few readings here and there, I was connected to an older woman for a ‘past life’ reading,” Kehlani said.
“I shared what I considered a light-hearted recap with my child's father, and he laughed at it and thought it was something light-hearted and not to be taken seriously.
“Manipulating those screenshots, and ignoring the rest of the messages, to make it seem like I consider myself in an inappropriate relationship with my daughter…is the most heartfelt thing I have ever heard.”
“I kept silent, and was publicly beaten.
“I addressed all of these matters where I should have, in court.
“I've sat there and seen that the audience only has access to one side of things, but that's exactly where I draw the line.
“I do not consider myself to be in any type of inappropriate relationship with my child and I never have been.
“The rest of these brutal allegations are being fully addressed in court.”
Kehlani shared the alleged text messages, which caused Javaaughn to ask: “What area of the world did this person in a past life say Adeya was from?”
“South America was once my wife,” she answered.
Kehlani added in the caption: “A hilarious conversation with what I consider family about a silly read got horribly twisted and I couldn't stand and watch it anymore.
“That's how the conversation actually went and the rest is left to the court.
“This is beyond that.
“We cannot remain silent about this issue any longer.”
Last August, the singer took to Instagram to deny being part of a religious cult, which her ex-husband accused her of belonging to.
She said: “I strongly deny any allegations that I have put my child in harm’s way, or left my child alone with anyone deemed dangerous or unsafe.
“I also do not support any of the allegations against my former religious community that have been reported in the media.”
Kehlani rose to fame in 2011 as part of PopLyf.
Over the years, she has released four albums, headlined three tours and supported Demi Lovato and Halsey.
The star, who has 15.9 million followers on Instagram, won the Rulebreaker Award at the Billboard Music Awards in 2017.
Javaaughn is a guitarist and brother of Jaboukie Young-White.
