The Republican Party maintained control of the House of Representatives, completing the overwhelming ruling triumvirate in Washington.

The GOP stronghold in the House and now the Senate gives the party the freedom to allow President-elect Donald Trump to implement his agenda once he takes office on January 20, 2025.

The stable Republican majority in the House of Representatives was the first time in nearly a decade that the balance of power in the House of Representatives did not flip after the election.

Before the official votes were certified, House Speaker Mike Johnson expressed optimism that his party could maintain the majority and help keep the gavel.

“The latest data suggests that we will also retain — and likely grow — our Republican majority in the House,” Johnson said in a message to voters, according to the Associated Press.

All 435 House seats were up for reelection as Democrats sought to flip at least four seats to regain the House majority.

At least 23 seats in the district were considered off-limits, including several contentious races in California and New York.

Republicans have reached the threshold of 218 seats needed to achieve a majority.

So far, Democrats hold 208 seats, and there are still a few races yet to be decided.

The Republican Party reached the threshold after the party picked up districts in Arizona and California.

Republican Juan Ciscumani was elected to Arizona's 6th Congressional District, while Ken Calvert won the race in California's 41st District.

The race was called with Calvert 10,000 votes ahead of challenger Will Rollins with 93% of the votes counted.

Meanwhile, Siskomani won by about 7,000 votes against challenger Kirsten Engel.

Republicans have controlled the majority in the House of Representatives since the 2022 midterm elections.

But given how tough the final outcome is, House Speaker Mike Johnson can't afford to lose many GOP votes if he wants to pass Trump's legislation.

Meanwhile, President-elect Trump spoke to House Republicans during a trip to Washington, D.C., where he met with Commander-in-Chief Joe Biden.
