Patrick Mahomes has been labeled “rare and unique” for his actions in the locker room.
The Kansas City Chiefs star was praised by general manager Brett Veach, who also praised teammate Travis Kelce.
Mahomes, 29, has helped guide the Chiefs to a winning start to the season with an impressive 9-0 record.
Veach noted the midfielder's commitment to the team and the rare trait that he would always answer his phone on the “first ring.”
The GM also praised Kelce as the “perfect ambassador” for the NFL around the world despite his relationship with pop star Taylor Swift.
Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, Fitch sang the praises of the two stars.
“The great thing about Travis is that he's funny because, given his connection, he's the absolute ambassador for the sport around the world,” he said.
“I would say with him and Patrick, the great thing about those two guys is they haven't really changed.
“I get a lot of questions about travel and the off-season.
“If you didn't see it on the Internet or Twitter, you wouldn't really believe it, because, I mean, the guy, like I said, is always in the building.
“He does a great job of making the additions even for a guy who has been in this league a long time and achieved a lot.
“I mean he's always at the facility getting extra treatment, working with the quarterbacks on the practice squad after practice, always doing the little things.
“And I think those guys who do these things on a consistent basis that lead to Hall of Fame careers because that's not good enough for either.
“What I appreciate most is the people, the person and how they treat people in the building.
“You would never know that Travis and Patrick are global icons. It's still a 'yes or no sir' question.”
“I laugh all the time because someone asked me about Pat and his development and the fact that he's still one of those guys who answers his cell phone on the first ring.
“I mean, it's rare and unique, but it goes back to the point where you could surround them with stars and money and all the accolades.
“But at the end of the day, they're just footballers. They love playing football. That's how they are, and it will never change.”
Fitch's praise caught the attention of fans on social media who also praised the pair.
“Kelce and Mahomes represent the game globally and treat everyone with respect,” one posted.
Another wrote: “True leaders!”
A third commented: “I'm sure Travis and Pat are ambassadors for sports and culture that will know no bounds.”
