His family is still struggling to come to terms with Jay's death, which is now under investigation.

Jay's younger sister Emma Dunne, 34, had the heartbreaking task of telling her nieces Millie, 18, and Scarlett, 10, that their father had died.

She said: “It was a sore throat, nothing else. It's a huge shock. It wasn't recorded and I don't think it was fully recorded. We went to see him at the Church of Rest and it seemed more real then.” Manchester Evening News.

“It was so sudden and the sore throat was so unimportant. If he was out on his bike and had an accident… it's hard to accept.

“It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. It was incredibly difficult.”

She said how her older brother was like a second father.

Jay, from Blakely, was passionate about motorbikes and became known in his area for his ability to fix “just about anything”.

His best friend has launched a fundraising campaign to help support Jay's family.

Matthew Largey wrote: “My goal is to raise as much money as possible to give to his two daughters, to help support them through this truly heartbreaking time.

“Jay was a great example of a man with a huge heart, endless skills when it came to doing any form of manual labor, a great love for bikes and a passion for helping anyone and everyone he could.

“It was clear to everyone who met him that his love for his daughters, Millie and Scarlett, far outweighed his love for anything else.”

“Jay takes the opportunity to get his tools out,” said Matthew Cave.

“Jay has spent his life at Blackley and has had many jobs throughout his life, all very different from each other allowing him to gain a huge range of skills – he was the most helpful man I could have ever had the pleasure of meeting!”
