The USPS will have new postage stamps dedicated to Betty White, scheduled to be issued for use in 2025.
In a press release dated Friday, the government agency provided a sneak peek at some of the stamps that will be in circulation next year, which include everything from revered pop icons to tributes to history and natural beauty.
White's seal, the preliminary design of which can be viewed here, is a digital illustration created by Dale Stefanos based on a 2010 photo taken by Kwako Alston. Greg Breeding, USPS art director, designed the seal.
“American television icon, Betty White (1922-2021), shared her wit and warmth with viewers for seven decades – including roles in Golden girls and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. The comedienne, who gained younger generations of fans as she entered her 90s, was also respected as a compassionate animal advocate.
Another notable figure that the stamps will celebrate is Allen Toussaint for the Black Heritage Series. The USPS has also released themed illustrations for the Year of the Snake, which begins on January 29, 2025, as well as love stamps (featuring works by the late Keith Haring).
“This early glimpse of the 2025 stamp program demonstrates our commitment to providing a variety of themes and designs for both philatelists and stamp enthusiasts,” Lisa Pope Semple, director of stamp services at USPS, said in the release. “This year, we are continuing many of our popular series and anniversary celebrations, while introducing some exciting new stamps. Additionally, many of our postal use stamps, which are printed on demand, will be updated this year. Stay tuned for more announcements in the coming months “
A snapshot of recently released stamps is a partial list, with more stamps to be announced in the coming weeks and months. Designs currently shown are also subject to change.
