The CEO says at least $1,000 stores will close
Dollar Tree, the parent company of Family Dollar, has revealed that it will close about 1,000 stores in the coming years.
The company announced in March that it would close the stores after the value of the retail store it acquired nearly a decade ago declined.
Dollar Tree plans to close about 600 Family Dollar stores in the first half of this year.
This will be followed by the closing of 370 Family Dollar stores and 30 Dollar Tree stores over the next several years.
The various discount chain stores also indicated that sales were affected by the cost of living crisis and inflation.
But USA Today added that Dollar Tree has also been shaken by a decline in government Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits.
This has left families struggling to juggle finances, with up to $250 less per month.
