Donald Trump's left-wing Cabinet picks continue with the nomination of WWE co-founder Linda McMahon to be Secretary of Education.
Trump announced his pick immediately after tapping TV doctor Mehmet Oz to serve as director of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on his Truth Social app last night, saying McMahon “will use her decades of leadership experience and deep understanding of both education and health care.” Business, to empower the next generation of American students and workers.
Trump has known McMahon for a long time and has had a long-standing association with World Wrestling Entertainment. During his first presidency, she served on leadership of the Small Business Administration and donated to his campaign.
McMahon, who resigned as WWE CEO in 2009 to run for Senate, has been tasked with leading an administration that Trump has harshly criticized, one that he said could be shut down.
Oz, known as Dr. Oz on screen, is a television doctor who has run his own show along with regular guest appearances on shows such as Opera. He previously ran for Senate as a conservative Republican, and was the first Muslim candidate nominated by either major party for the US Senate.
The pair are just the latest in Trump's nominations as the president-elect rewards figures who were fiercely loyal during the campaign. Other eye-catching nominations include Elon Musk leading a new Department of Government Efficiency, vaccine skeptic Robert F. Kennedy Jr. handing in his health secretary brief, and Matt Gaetz who has come under fire for his attorney general's delivery.
