KROGER has positioned itself as the place to shop during Thanksgiving this year with affordable prices on popular items.
The retailer is set to have the most requested food and drink options for Americans to gear up after a recent survey.
Tom Duncan, Kroger's vice president and chief marketing officer, insisted the survey was vital to knowing what customers need in 2024.
“Thanksgiving is a special time of year, and we take pride in knowing exactly what is important to our customers during this holiday season,” Duncan noted in a press release on Monday.
“No matter how they choose to celebrate, we are thrilled to offer our customers value on the items they need, want, and love this Thanksgiving.”
Kroger's data and insights arm, 84.51, found that at least 90% of households that frequent the chain will celebrate the holiday, according to the release.
That means there will be plenty of essentials purchased in the coming weeks at Kroger's 1,242 locations across the country.
To prepare, Kroger asked survey respondents what Thanksgiving items they wanted and found a trend toward “traditional” offerings.
Just the basics
There were at least five traditional “must-haves” for many shoppers.
At least 83% of those surveyed said they wanted Kroger's Thanksgiving meal to include turkey first and foremost.
About 55% said filling was also necessary, 49% pointed to mashed potatoes, 30% said pumpkin pie and 30% voted for gravy.
The primary sixth runner-up was 20% cranberry sauce.
However, some participants rated it as a dish they would “refuse to eat” on Thanksgiving.
Turkey made up 78% of Kroger shoppers' favorite main protein dish, with pork coming in second at 15%, and the remaining 7% was left to chicken, brisket, roast beef or tofu, respectively.
Offers for several days
According to additional data collected by 84.51, sales of Thanksgiving pies and gravy rose by more than 200%, stuffing by 800%, and turkey and cranberry sauce by as much as 1,000%.
Kroger said it found that most customers still plan to save money on all the items they buy for the holiday, with 71% of respondents looking forward to the deals and sales the retailer plans to offer.
