The incident occurred in October 2021 when a gun went off while Baldwin was handling it, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza. Although filming resumed and wrapped in May 2023, the emotional impact on the Hutchins family remains profound.
As “Rust” prepares for its premiere at the EnergaCAMERIMAGE Film Festival in Poland on November 20, Solovey announced her decision to boycott the event. She expressed her suffering over Baldwin's actions, noting that his refusal to acknowledge his role in her daughter's death only exacerbated her suffering. In her statement, she stressed that Baldwin appears to be seeking to profit from the tragedy rather than show remorse.

The dismissal of Baldwin's manslaughter trial in August, citing mishandling of evidence, did little to ease the family's pain. Solovey insists that an apology from Baldwin is essential and necessary for healing.
Gloria Allred, the family's attorney, echoed that sentiment, highlighting Baldwin's lack of respect toward the Hutchins family by not communicating with them.
The upcoming release of “Rust” has sparked controversy within the film community, with many questioning the appropriateness of showing a film associated with such a devastating incident.
Despite these concerns, the premiere will go ahead in a smaller venue rather than the main center of the festival, and Baldwin will not be in attendance. Meanwhile, Hannah Gutierrez Reid, the film's gunsmith and the one responsible for safety protocols, is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence for manslaughter in connection with Hutchins' death.
