Brandon Graham's 15-season career may be over.
The Eagles forward revealed he suffered a season-ending torn triceps tendon during a 37-20 win over the Rams on Sunday night.
Graham said before the season that he planned for this to be his final season but he definitely didn't close the door on a return after the game.
“I don't want to go out like that, but if it suggests that, we'll see,” Graham said. “I don't know how the team is going to feel at the time. But I know for me I don't want to go out like that. I definitely want to be able to finish the whole season before I'm done.”
“But if that's not on the cards, I'm content with where I'm at too. I'm not there yet. I say, let's get this over with and let's see how the rehab goes and then we'll go from there.”
The Eagles are riding high with seven straight wins, fueled by a thriving offense led by Saquon Barkley and a defense that has found its footing after a rough start.
Graham, 36, helped the Eagles rush with three sacks, including a strong game Sunday night that included one sack, two tackles for loss and three quarterback hits.
The veteran said the injury occurred when he was injured while playing, and multiple reports indicate he exited in the fourth quarter.
If Graham plays his final snap, he will finish in franchise history with 76.5 sacks after being drafted No. 13 overall in the 2010 NFL Draft.
“If I had to go out like that, I like the way I gave everything on the field,” Graham said. “All I know is they're not done with me yet. I'm going to make sure I go out there and be the best leader I can be, like I always do. Keep bringing the energy and let people know how lucky they are to have me out on the field.”
Losing Graham is a tough blow to a team that appears to be establishing itself as one of the best teams in the league.
The Eagles are the No. 2 seed in the NFC and one game behind the Lions for home-field advantage. They visit the Ravens in Week 13 in a potential Super Bowl preview.
Graham said he believes he can still help the team achieve its lofty goals.
“As I told the boys, the mission is still the mission,” Graham said. “We're giving everything we can in this game. If I say I trust God, then I trust God. I'm just enjoying myself.”
“I'm about to enjoy this little rehab period and then I'm about to enjoy driving this team for the rest of the year, and as soon as I can bet there, I'll be there. Man, we were having fun out there and we're still having fun.”
