Steve Cohen believes there is hope that members of the PGA Tour and LIV Golf can find a way to reunite despite the ongoing civil war in the sport.
The Mets owner expressed his optimistic belief during a media event for New York Golf Club, a team that competes in the TGL Indoor Golf League that will launch in January.
“There are a lot of moving parts and I think we will get there,” Cohen told reporters, according to Bloomberg.
He later said of the situation: “The goal is to reunite all the players – it's fragmented now.” “Playing in one tournament, in one place, whatever, is exciting.”
The split between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf has created a wedge in golf, but cautious optimism has crept into the arena as the Saudi-backed LIV and the PGA Tour try to reach a merger.
The two groups shocked sports fans and golfers in June 2023 when they jointly announced plans to merge.
The talks have not gone smoothly, but there is belief things are moving in a good direction after PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan and PIF's Yasser Al-Rumayyan played a round of golf together last month.
There is also an exhibition golf match scheduled next month between PGA Tour stars Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler and LIV golf stars Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau.
TGL is a collegiate golf league founded by Tiger Woods, McIlroy and former Golf Channel president Mike McCarley under their media venture TMRW Sports.
They have partnered with the PGA Tour and the league will feature six teams playing inside the SoFi Center, located in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Cohen invested in the New York team along with Eli Manning, Derek Jeter, Jimmy Fallon and CC Sabathia.
