Tyreek Hill is off the hook for his standoff with police in Miami in September.
The Dolphins wide receiver had traffic tickets for reckless driving and a seat belt violation dismissed after Miami-Dade police officers failed to show up for a court hearing Monday.
Miami-Dade police said the failure to appear was “an oversight” and defended issuing citations.
“Rejecting a citation for this reason does not indicate that the citation has no basis,” the agency said in a statement.
The 30-year-old Hill was held out of Hard Rock Stadium before the Dolphins' season opener on Sept. 8.
After a back and forth, Hill was ordered out of his car before he was pulled from his seat and dropped to the floor, lying on his stomach while he was handcuffed.
He was arrested at the time for “driving in a manner that exposes himself or others to significant danger.”
Hill would be issued a citation and released in time for the game, where he would finish with seven receptions on 12 targets for 130 yards, including an 80-yard touchdown catch, capped by a handcuff celebration in the end zone.
The incident was placed under review that Sunday, and Danny Torres, a 27-year Miami-Dade police veteran, was placed on administrative duty stemming from the ordeal.
Hill, who was playing through a left wrist injury that he claims was aggravated during the incident, took to social media on Tuesday to troll those who criticized his role in the ordeal.
“Where are all the internet cops now,” he wrote on X.
In the days following the incident, Hill called for Torres to be fired by the department for what he considered an “excessive” use of force.
“After a careful and comprehensive review of multiple body cameras and citizen videos that captured the unfortunate events that occurred on Sunday, September 8, 2024, between multiple Miami-Dade Police Department officers and Tyreek Hill, we demand the immediate termination of the officer,” Hill said through attorney Julius P. Collins. Who has been placed on administrative leave.”
