Sunk submarines
In August, Subway suddenly closed more than 20 locations across Oregon to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
The franchisee claimed financial problems.
In June, another Subway franchise owner declared bankruptcy.
River Subs LLC was founded in 1991 by three operators: Martha Jordan, Kathy Amato, and Rick Riley.
The bankruptcy announcement came as bad news for its employees, who relied on their jobs for steady income and now face job uncertainty.
It is based in San Antonio, Texas, and has at least 48 stores.
Food failure
Subway tried to lure customers with its $6.99 meal deal, but less than a month after its launch, the chain was forced to cancel the offer.
The deal includes a 6-inch sandwich, a fountain drink, and chips or two regular cookies.
Subway had planned to run the promotion through December, but canceled it earlier than expected.
The good news is that customers can still access the deal through the chain's app until December 26.
