A 30-year-old Briton died in police custody at an airport in Malaysia, his family said.
Callum Loxton was traveling via Kuala Lumpur International Airport to Phuket, Thailand when he passed away last Saturday.
Local cops say Callum, from Rochdale, was arrested and then “passed out in the process of documenting this arrest”.
The Manchester Evening News reported that Callum's family had been left heartbroken and without answers.
His father Roy said: “It's just a real nightmare and we're not getting answers. We don't know anything and now we have to bring him home.”
“No one is telling us anything. We don't know how he disappeared. You might say you were safe at the airport, but obviously not.”
Roy said Callum's family had no idea what was happening and his phone had also disappeared.
“We just want to know how he died. It's ridiculous.”
The family was informed by a police officer who knocked on their door Monday evening.
The policeman told the family that an incident occurred when Callum's bag went missing.
The New Straits Times quoted Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan as saying that Callum died in custody.
Khan said Callum was arrested on charges of mischief, damage to property, voluntarily causing hurt and obstructing a public servant.
“At around 1.30pm, police arrested the suspect, who was traveling from the UK to Phuket, Thailand, with a temporary stopover at Terminal 1 of Kuala Lumpur International Airport. He behaved aggressively and disrupted the peace there,” Khan said.
“During the documentation process, the suspect lost consciousness, prompting officers to contact the Kuala Lumpur International Airport medical team.
He added, “The doctor provided first aid, but the suspect was declared dead at the scene.”
A Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) spokesperson told The Sun: “We are aware of the death of a British national in Malaysia and are making contact with local authorities and with his family in the UK.”
