A fugitive murder suspect wanted in the senseless murder of a “beautiful and kind” teenager has handed himself in to Greek cops after feeling homesick.

Thomas Dorris (21 years old) appeared in court in Athens yesterday after nearly 18 months on the run and pleaded to be returned to Britain as soon as possible.

He was represented by the same Greek lawyer appointed by Manchester United defender Harry Maguire before his assault trial in Mykonos.

Doris fled the UK after 19-year-old Matthew Dolby was stabbed in the chest during a fight outside a pub in Ormskirk, Landes, last July.

Officers have taken their search to Spain and have issued a £20,000 reward for information helping to locate the suspect.

Matthew's devastated parents tearfully urged anyone who knows Doris's whereabouts to “please do the right thing”.

His mother, Angela, said: “It is not normal for your children to live like this, and sadness and pain are with us every day.

“Every day I wake up and think what I would give to have just five more minutes with Matthew.”

Mrs Dolby described her son as “kind, polite and caring”.

One man, 20-year-old Henry Houghton, has already been jailed for at least 20 years after being found guilty of his murder.

The jury at Preston Crown Court heard that Hutton hit Matthew on the head with a rock in a sock to disorient him before stabbing him.

But the prosecution acknowledged that he was not responsible for directing the fatal blow.

Alexis Anagnostakis, who will head Maguire's defense team when the footballer goes on trial in March next year, was contacted on Monday shortly before Doris surrendered.

It is understood that Doris entered the local police station in Iliopolis, a southern suburb of Athens, accompanied by the famous lawyer.

A police source said: “We were shocked when we saw this young man saying that he was wanted in England and wanted to surrender.

“He gave a statement and was then transferred to cells in a larger centre.”

“He surrendered voluntarily and asked for the procedures to be expedited so he could return home before Christmas,” Anagnostakis told The Sun.

Doris appeared before the Public Prosecutor of the Court of Appeal in the Greek capital yesterday.

He was transferred to Korydallos Prison in Athens where he is scheduled to be detained for at least ten days.

He is expected to appear before an Appeals Court judge in the coming days to formally hear his extradition request.

British police officers are scheduled to travel to Greece to accompany him to the United Kingdom.

Lancashire Police said: “Doris was arrested in Athens on Monday and appeared in court in Greece.

“Arrangements will be made to return him to the UK.”
