Exclusive: Kevin Macdonald (Last king of Scotland), Maria Schrader (she said(Ramin Al-Bahrani)White tiger) are among the filmmakers scheduled to attend this year's Floodlight Summit in Cartagena, Colombia.
This year's event – the second annual Floodlight Summit gathering – will take place December 6-8 in Cartagena. The summit brings together investigative journalists from around the world who present their work to filmmakers and producers for potential screen adaptations.
Other key guests scheduled to attend include William Horberg (The Queen's Gambit(Ziyad Al-Duwairi)West Beirut), Sarah Timberman (justification), Alexander Rodnyansky (Juggernaut), and Rodrigo Garcia (News of kidnapping). Ryan Murphy Productions CEO and attorney Craig Emanuel will also be in attendance to provide legal guidance.
Floodlight's 2024 group of journalists includes reporters from more than 25 countries across five continents, including Pulitzer Prize winners, freelancers and war correspondents. Speakers from Columbia's defining profession include Jodi Kantor and Megan Toohey (New York Times, she said) and Patrick Radden Cave (The New Yorker), who will chat with producer Brad Simpson (Crazy Rich Asians). The duo will discuss collaborating to turn the how-to book Say Nothing into a Hulu television series of the same name.
Floodlight launched with the first summit in December 2023. It was attended by film and TV creators Graham Yost (Band of Brothers), Charles Randolph (The Big Short), Janine Jackowski (Toni Erdmann), Nico Seles (Roma), and several development deals. It is now reportedly a work in progress following last year's release.
Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich), who attended the Floodlight Summit last year and will return again this year, called the event “a rare and invaluable opportunity to hear from a global group of investigative journalists doing some of the most important, consequential and dangerous reporting in the world right now.”
“The Floodlight Initiative is a huge gift to both journalists and filmmakers — and to the audience who will benefit from these adaptations in the future,” Grant said.
In a joint statement, Floodlight Chief Creative Officer Alicia Weston and Executive Producer Philippa Quarski added: “We have been overwhelmed by the response and commitment from the industry to both versions of Floodlight. The chemistry we witnessed in Cartagena is already cultivating moving new stories. We can’t wait to see what comes next.” year.”
