Boat explosion at Lauderdale Marina kills one, injures 5

Shocking footage showed the moment a boat exploded at its top at a Florida marina, killing one person and injuring five others on Monday.

The small boat exploded around 6 p.m., then the fire spread through Lauderdale Marina as shocked bystanders looked on helplessly, according to video from NBC 6.

The top half of the boat shot into the air before landing back on the bottom of the ship.

Witnesses who were at a nearby restaurant in Fort Lauderdale told the Miami Herald that they saw the boat filling with fuel before the explosion.

“I heard a huge explosion, and I looked over [there was a woman] “On the second floor of the boat,” a passerby said.

The newspaper reported that a second, smaller boat caught fire during the surreal incident.

Authorities said five victims were recovered from the chaos and taken to nearby hospitals, with three of them suffering from serious injuries.

Divers found the fatal victim dead in the water.

“This boat has completely disappeared,” Tamer El Domyati, a restaurant worker, told Local 10.

“Then, I ran over there to see if anyone needed help. There was a guy on fire, and another guy was in the water. It was just chaos all at once.”

The Herald reported that it took firefighters about two hours to extinguish the raging fire.
