A mechanic has revealed which cars he will never buy due to exorbitant repair costs.
Car expert Chris Pyle has warned that buying nine cars could cost drivers much more than their initial price.

Pyle has worked as a virtual mechanic answering car-related questions on JustAnswer for more than 18 years, according to CNBC.
Throughout his decades of automotive experience, he's compiled a list of cars he doesn't think are worth the hassle — starting with electric cars.
The top cars Pyle doesn't recommend buying are Teslas, as he says the price of repairing and maintaining electric vehicles is unreasonable, GoBankingRates reported.
“The cost of ownership once the engine or battery goes down and the cost of repair is much greater than the value of the vehicle,” Pyle said.
Right behind Tesla is another electric car.
Pyle doesn't recommend Rivian, which makes premium electric SUVs and pickup trucks.
“The high cost of collision repairs and collision insurance can often amount to a price tag on the car itself,” Pyle warned.
No SUV
Pyle also recommended against purchasing Ford Fiesta and Nissan cars and small SUVs due to what he considered unreliable parts.
“Dual-clutch transmission and [Continuous Variable Transaxles] “Don’t hold still,” Pyle said.
“Once it fails, you are faced with very high repair costs that most independent shops will not incur.
“So, they have to go to the dealer.”
Pyle named two other cars he doesn't think are reliable: the Jeep Renegade and the Fiat 500.
“It's not so much the cost of repairs, it's how often they're needed,” Pyle said.
“For many, these cars spend more time waiting for repairs than driving without problems.”
Extended Warranty Advice
Another vehicle that Pyle expects to struggle with repairs is the Jeep Grand Cherokee — which is why he recommends purchasing an extended warranty.

“They are suffering from expensive repairs; Early parts failure “It's so poorly made, they often want to buy the car when it's new,” Pyle said of the Cherokee.
“If you plan to buy a new one, make sure you purchase an extended warranty before the warranty expires.”
Buy used trucks
Pyle also recommends purchasing used pickup trucks.
He said drivers would be better off getting a used Ford, Nissan, Dodge, Chevy or Toyota truck.
This means they won't have to deal with the brunt of repairs.

“The prices for light-duty and even heavy-duty models are expensive,” Pyle said.
“In the first five years of ownership, you will lose about 35% to 55% of the value of the vehicle in the $30,000 to $50,000 price range.
“It is better to buy a used one so that the first owner can bear the loss.”
Pyle's advice comes as a major problem for drivers has been uncovered.
Some car owners are forced to take their cars to dealerships for repairs instead of garages due to increasingly complex engines.
