Luka Doncic has been added to the growing list of professional athletes who have recently been victims of home burglaries.
The Mavericks star had his home broken into Friday night, and nearly $30,000 worth of jewelry was stolen, according to a police report obtained by The Dallas Morning News.
“No one was home at the time, and fortunately Luka and his family are fine,” Lara Beth Seeger, Doncic’s manager, told the newspaper. He added: “Luca has filed a report with the police, and the investigation is still ongoing.”
According to the police report, an unknown person broke into the master bathroom window of Doncic's home and made off with the jewelry between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
The Mavericks departed Thursday for a four-game road trip that opened with a win Friday night in Phoenix, and are not scheduled to return to Dallas until after they play the Rockets on New Year's Day.
Doncic is currently sidelined with a left calf injury on Christmas Day against the Timberwolves.
The team is not scheduled to return to North Texas until after its game against the Houston Rockets on New Year's Day.
NFL stars Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Joe Burrow have also had their homes burgled in recent months, as have NBA players Bobby Portis and Mike Conley Jr.
According to ESPN, the FBI has linked several recent robberies to “transnational robbery groups in South America” that are said to be “sophisticated, well-organized rings that incorporate advanced technologies and techniques, including advance surveillance, drones, and signal jammers.” .
Both leagues have issued security alerts for players and teams to take extra precautions to protect their homes from further burglaries.
