Exclusive: Famous Danish producer Kim Magnusson has boarded I'm not a robotthe Oscar-shortlisted live-action short from rising Dutch director Viktoria Warmerdam, as executive producer, with plans to help Magnusson adapt the film for the big screen.
As we were first to report, Eric Martin, head writer and executive producer of Loki Season 2 will also be produced alongside Tobias Weymar, through Rearview Pictures, along with short film producer Trent of the Holland Motion Pictures.
In the short — one of 15 producers last month shortlisted for the Oscars for Live-Action Short — music producer Lara faces an existential crisis after repeatedly failing a routine CAPTCHA test, leading her to question whether she's actually a robot. As her day spins out of control, she desperately searches for answers in a darkly comedic exploration of identity and self-perception.
We're told the feature will delve deeper into themes of identity, technology, and self-perception while maintaining the darkly comedic and silly tone that defined the short film. Warmerdam will once again direct from her own script. The project is supported by the Dutch Film Fund, TorinoFilmLab, ACE Producers and FilmForward.
Winner of the Best Short Film Award at the 2023 Sitges Film Festival, among many other awards, the short film It has been selected for over 100 festivals around the world. With support from The New Yorker, this is made possible through the support of the Dutch Film Fund, the Amsterdam Arts Fund, the Belgian Tax Shelter, and Henri Gillet of Y-House Films.
“Collaborating with Kim is an absolute honor for us,” said Trent of OAK Motion Pictures. “His experience and passion for dark humor, genre-bending narratives, and original storytelling align perfectly with the vision of adapting the feature. Having Kim as part of this journey elevates the project in every way.”
