MILWAUKEE — Cam Johnson, the Nets' most consistent player all season, was injured in the second-to-last game of their 113-110 win in Milwaukee.
The forward turned his ankle and had an X-ray Thursday night at Fiserv Forum.
Johnson told the newspaper that the filming was negative, so he and Nets avoided the possible worst-case scenario.
However, Johnson remained on crutches after the win and was clearly in discomfort.
It was tough to get a win on the road against a tough Bucks team — who happened to be the Nets' pick — but that was it.
The Nets allowed Milwaukee to take a 20-2 lead, but it held on in the final seconds.
Damian Lillard missed a potential 3-pointer with 4.1 ticks left in regulation.
Johnson and Zayari Williams both went for a defensive rebound, and Johnson appeared to land on the latter's foot, causing the ball to be lost out of bounds.
Johnson jumped off the floor with a twisted ankle, Milwaukee got the ball with six-tenths of a second left, and Lillard missed a 35-footer.
But now the Nets may be missing their most consistent player.
“Yeah man, I feel bad about it,” Williams said. “All I know is it was pretty loud, trying to get the ball, and Cam was behind me. Yeah, I don't know (what happened). I have to look back. But yeah man, I kind of ruined the night. I hope That it's nothing serious. I feel really bad now, I can't lie to you man yeah, it's bad when you get hurt like that.
Johnson had a team-high 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting and 6-of-12 from behind the arc.
After Thursday, Johnson averaged a career-high 19.5 points on .496/.436/.895 shooting contests.
It has now fallen, with no clarity on how long that will take.
“Yes, it's tough. It's tough to see CJ go down like that,” Cam Thomas told The Post. He had 24 points Thursday in just his second outing after missing a month with left hamstring issues.
“And I'm dealing with what I'm dealing with is tough. But we still have enough guys here to play; we've got to go out there and keep playing. I'm going to keep fighting, I'm going to keep fighting, I'm going to keep playing. I'm giving everything I've got to the guys who can't. I'm going to keep going “I hope CJ is doing well.”
Johnson is expected to be among the most sought-after players at the trade deadline, and his three-point shooting has been the engine of Brooklyn's offense.
“Yes, unfortunate. Unfortunate,” D’Angelo Russell said. “He’s a tough guy, though. I know he will be back soon, and he will come back stronger. I'm not worried about him. “He'll be fine.”
Williams had eight points and six rebounds to finish with 12 points in his first game back after missing the final 10 with a left knee injury.
Keon Johnson had a career-high nine rebounds.
